Welcome to the Drive Safe Cedar Valley (DSCV) website. DSCV is dedicated to improve traffic safety by influencing the traffic behavior and culture in Waterloo-Cedar Falls metro area and Black Hawk County. Our mission is to educate and encourage drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians in our communities to be safer in traffic and to be smarter. Here, you can learn more about our mission and how you can help. There are also news and events, media information and other informational resources to raise public awareness about traffic safety.
In the Waterloo metropolitan area and Black Hawk County over 2000 traffic crashes happen in an average year. These accidents are responsible for about 10 deaths, 44 Serious/Life Changing Injuries, and 720 Other Injuries and a significant amount of property damage annually. Most of these crashes stem from a wide range of unsafe driving practices or safety issues that are unknown, forgotten or simply overlooked by Cedar Valley drivers.
As the first public awareness program of its kind in Iowa, the goal of Drive Safe Cedar Valley is to change our community’s culture of behavior in traffic. We are taking this message literally out to the streets, with dedicated spokespeople, special events, targeted education programs and a variety of other public awareness initiatives designed to highlight community-wide traffic safety issues.
Drive Safe Cedar Valley is a partnership has been made funded by/through the City of Waterloo, the Iowa Department of Transportation and INRCOG. It’s time we as drivers realize that every time we get behind the wheel, the lives of passengers, other drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are in our hands.
