In less than five years, Black Hawk County has experienced seven pedestrian deaths and more than 100 traffic-related injuries. According to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, the state has averaged between 20 to 25 fatalities that involve pedestrians in the past year.
A total of ten cities in the state of Iowa have received funding for pedestrian safety, enforcement, and education, with Waterloo being one of the ten.
The project totals $30,000 and focuses on speed enforcement in high pedestrian areas.
